Jakub Julian Ziółkowski (born 1980) was born in Zamość, where he completed both primary and secondary education and passed his final school examinations. In 2005 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where he received his diploma.
The main fields of his artistic practice are painting and music, which intertwine and complement each other. The strategies and visual languages he has developed in painting are translated into the mobile, process-based language of music, while music’s distinctive way of unfolding narratives over time is, in turn, mysteriously transposed into monotypes and paintings.
The pillars upon which Jakub Julian Ziółkowski’s cosmos unfolds include mythology, archaeology, botany, and zoology, as well as physiology and perennial philosophy. He is fascinated by anthills and shamanic practices, objects and places of power, the hidden worlds of hospitals, cave paintings, endurance, and transformation. The vehicles of his practice are introspection and contemplation. His oldest companion and refuge is drawing.
Jakub Julian Ziółkowski (1980) urodził się w Zamościu, gdzie uczęszczał do szkoły podstawowej i średniej oraz zdał maturę. W 2005 roku ukończył Akademię Sztuk Pięknych w Krakowie i obronił dyplom.
Głównymi obszarami jego praktyki artystycznej są malarstwo i muzyka, które wzajemnie się przenikają i uzupełniają. Wypracowane przez siebie strategie i środki obrazowania, artysta przekłada bowiem na ruchliwy, procesowy język muzyki, natomiast jej charakterystyczny sposób rozwijania narracji w czasie potrafi w tajemniczy sposób przetransponować na monotypie i obrazy.
Filary, na których rozpościera się Kosmos Jakuba Juliana Ziółkowskiego to mitologia, archeologia, botanika i zoologia, ale też fizjologia oraz filozofia wieczysta. Fascynują go mrowiska i praktyki szamańskie, obiekty i miejsca mocy, tajemnice szpitali i malowidła jaskiniowe, trwanie i przemiana. Wehikułami jego twórczości są introspekcja i kontemplacja. Najstarszym przyjacielem i schronieniem jest rysowanie.
